Atheism in Omaha
There is one major group of atheists in Omaha, Omaha Atheists. The Omaha Atheist community has four major pillars to having a successful community: education, activism, service, and community. Omaha Atheists was founded in 2008. It is an educational non-profit organization. In 2013 there was a conference called "Apostacon" dedicated to the "Flying Spaghetti Monster".
The Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster is a unique one, and it is not a joke, despite what the name and logo look like. People of this religion try not to be serious, are fond of beer, believe that every Friday is a religion holiday, and believe that pirates should be known today as peaceful, kind people, instead of grim criminals. The Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster has been in existence for hundreds of years in secrecy but it became mainstream in 2005. There are not thousands, but millions of devout worshipers. There are strict rules or regulations in the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster. They have no prayers or rituals, Pastafarians think that things like that nonsense. Like other religions the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster is backed by science.
Apostacon was held at the Double Tree in Omaha from September 19-21. The groups that met at Apostacon were Atheists, Agonstics, Humanists, Skeptics, Apostates, Freethinkers, Pastafarians, and Rationalists.

Apostacon was a huge event that took place at the Doubletree Hilton hotel in downtown Omaha in September of 2014. At Apostacon, there were many speakers and sponsors explaining the 4 principles of Omaha Atheists, and sharing their point of view on the ideas of Atheism and the Flying Spaghetti Monster. Omaha Atheists sponsor the event, and many locals arrive at Apostacon to talk with fellow Atheists, have a fancy dinner, and participate in the raffle. "Ahoy Maties!"
