American Atheists
A Nonprofit, nonpolitical, Educational organization aiming to make a "wall of separation" between state and church.
American Atheists, an organization put together in 1963 promoting and fighting for liberties for American Atheists, born out of a court case in 1959 by the Murray family. The Murray family was challenging prayer recitation in public schools, and succeed in taking away the right to say religious prayers during school. The organization is dedicated to working for civil rights of atheists, providing information on atheism, and separating the church and the government. American Atheists has held many meetings and conventions to educate people on atheism and its beliefs. They also had an "Atheist Pride" march in Washington D.C. to spread their views on Atheism.

Madalyn Murray O'Hair was the founder of American Atheists, and it is said that she loved nothing more than speaking against Christianity. She never missed a chance to try and get her word out there, whether it was through TV talk shows, newspaper, magazines, or other forms of communication. O'Hair claimed in many instances that she became an Atheist after reading the complete Bible as a teenager, and never believing any of it. Some people around the country, and even Life magazine titled her the "Most Hated Woman in America", because of her tendency to not respect other religions, or even listen to what they had to say to her. She also was involved in the case that ended in the ban of praying from the Bible in public schools. Despite these accomplishments for Atheists, Madalyn disappeared with two of her grown up children in 1995, and police say that she left by choice. It is assumed that she left to get away from the pressure and hate she was receiving from people all around the country, and many people, even some Atheists, were relieved that she was gone. But police eventually concluded that Madalyn and her kids were kidnapped by a man who had worked at the American Atheist offices, and he murdered them after forcing them to give up missing funds. Despite this teribly brutal ending, Madalyn Murray O'Hair had a huge influence on America as a whole, and she certainly made a name for herself, whether in a good or a bad sense.
